What this actually is
Your own car, but you are not driving
First, what it is not: not a taxi, not a hire car with a driver, and not a fleet. I come to you, get behind the wheel of the car you already own, and drive you where you need to be. You sit in the back of your own vehicle with your own things, and at the end of the day that car is back where it belongs.
In Amsterdam this is interesting for a different reason than elsewhere in the country. Distance is not the problem here — nothing inside the ring is far — but what the city does to the time between two appointments. The A10 seizes up in the peak, the canal belt is one-way with bridges, and once you finally arrive you still have to find a space.
What that costs is concrete: street parking in the centre stands at € 8.05 an hour in 2026, the highest tariff in the Netherlands, and it applies across the whole centre twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. In garages it runs to € 12 or € 13 an hour. But the real loss is not that amount. It is the quarter of an hour before you are parked, and another quarter at the other end.
When this works
Four situations where it earns its keep
Amsterdam is not a city where you hire a chauffeur to make an impression. You hire one because the day falls apart otherwise.
Three appointments in one day
Zuidas at ten, the centre at one, Noord at four. Driving yourself, each move costs you half an hour of driving and parking plus the worry about being late. With me you step out at the door and back in at the door; where the car sits in between is my problem.
The drive where you want to keep working
Utrecht to the Zuidas is three quarters of an hour, an hour in the morning peak. That is an hour to make calls, go through your papers, or do nothing at all. Not in a taxi with a meter running, but in the back of your own car with your laptop on the seat beside you.
An evening in the city
A concert at the Ziggo Dome or AFAS Live, a match at the Johan Cruijff ArenA, a show at Carré or the Concertgebouw, or simply an evening around the Leidseplein or Rembrandtplein. Those are exactly the nights when the whole of Zuidoost queues for the same barrier at once. I drop you at the entrance, wait or come back, and bring you and your car home, no hunting for a taxi at half past midnight, and your car is not still in town the next morning.
Guests you would rather not collect yourself
A contact landing at Schiphol whom you want driven to the office or the hotel in your own car, without you doing the A4 twice. One familiar face, your own vehicle, and you appear only when the conversation starts.

I plan an Amsterdam day the other way round from an airport run: not from a departure time, but from the appointment that is least able to move.

Collection wherever you are
A quarter of an hour before the appointment
At home, at the office or at the station. I am there well before the agreed time so getting in is never a rush. Tell me which appointments are fixed and which can shift; I plan the day around that rather than improvising from point to point.

The drive into the city
From Utrecht ± 45 min, an hour in the peak
Via the A2 and the A9, or the A1 if the Zuidas is the target. The A10 ring is where travel time doubles between seven and nine and between four and seven. In those hours I build in twenty minutes rather than hoping for the best. Arriving early costs you nothing, arriving late does.

Stepping out at the door
No hunting for a space
I drop you where you need to be and find a space afterwards, or keep circling nearby if it is short. That is the difference from driving yourself: you are not walking eight minutes back from a garage, and you are not working out mid-meeting that your parking time is running out.

Between two appointments
Waiting or coming back
If your appointment takes an hour, I wait. If it takes half a day, we agree that I leave and return. You do not pay for hours in which I am doing nothing. Beyond eight hours the € 300 day rate beats separate hours, and I will say so when it does.

Back to your own driveway
End of the day
After the last appointment I take you home and leave the car where it belongs. If you left earlier by train, I still drive the car back and send a message with a photograph once it is parked.
Practical points
What it costs, honestly
The rate is € 40 per hour excl. VAT with a three-hour minimum; from eight hours a day rate of € 300 applies. Do the arithmetic yourself: eight hours of street parking in the centre is roughly € 64. So I am not cheaper than parking and I am not going to pretend otherwise. What you get back are the working hours in the car and the quarter-hours you would otherwise lose circling and walking back.
Parking is my problem, not yours
The whole centre is paid parking, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, at € 8.05 an hour on the street and € 12 to € 13 in the garages. Those costs are in the quote, calculated in advance. You get no supplementary bill afterwards and no invoice for a fine I should have avoided.
Your car, your rules
Want a particular route, no radio, or a stop at a client on the way? Say so. I drive your car the way you would drive it yourself, and I will not take it to the cheapest pump outside the city unless you ask.
Recurring events
For a few weeks a year the city fills up and a driver stops being a luxury. Amsterdam Dance Event runs from 21 to 25 October 2026, its thirtieth edition; Toppers in Concert is at the Johan Cruijff ArenA on 19 and 20 June. Add King's Day, the marathon and the large trade fairs at the RAI. On those days I would rather book well ahead, because the approach routes and road closures are different.
Insurance
I drive under your own policy, like any driver with your permission. Check once that there is no age or named-driver restriction on it; with almost every Dutch policy this is not an issue. If you are unsure, send the policy sheet along and I will look at it with you before anything is agreed.
Discretion
What is discussed in the car stays in the car. That sounds like a line from a brochure, but it is the reason people hire me instead of calling a taxi: one familiar face you know, not a rotating driver you have never met.
Rate
All rates shown are excl. VAT. This page is aimed at business clients. If you are a private customer, 21% VAT is added: €48.40 per hour instead of €40.

What people want to know beforehand
No. I deliberately have no fleet. I drive the car you already own. That is the whole point. You sit in your own vehicle, with your own things, and at the end of the day that car is back at your house.
No, and I am not going to dress that up. Eight hours of parking in the centre is around € 64; a day rate with me is € 300. You are paying for the hours you can work in the car and for the hassle you do not have.
Wait nearby, or park the car and come back when called. If your appointment runs to several hours we agree that I leave and return. You do not pay for hours in which I am doing nothing for you.
For virtually every passenger car this is not an issue. If you drive an older diesel, give me the registration when booking and I will check it beforehand rather than us finding out on the day.
